The Magician's Hat by Malcolm Mitchell, illustrated by Joanne Lew-Vriethoff, tells the story of the magic of books. During a family fun day at the library, we get to witness the magic hat of a magician who found his calling in a book.
Though Malcolm Mitchell, former New England Patriots Super Bowl champ turned author, has not won any awards for his book meant for 1st - 3rd graders, he has had many honors, including the 2016 Community Spirit Award and the Haier Ultimate Achievement Award. It was also featured on Storyline Online, which is an acclaimed children’s literacy program.
This would be a great read-aloud book for the younger readers to open up the discussion on what they strive to be when they’re older.
